We Improve Access to Efficient Stoves to  Improve Lives

Three billion people around the world cook their food by burning charcoal, wood, and biomass on open fires or rudimentary stoves. This has massive health, economic, and environmental repercussions.


Health Crisis

Pollution from open fire cooking kills over 4.3 million people each year; more than malaria, AIDS, and tuberculosis combined. Women and children are disproportionately impacted.


Economic Burden

In many developing contries, families spend up to ⅓ of their income on fuel, perpetuating the cycle of poverty. In other areas where fuel cannot be purchased, women and children are forced to walk up to 6 hours per day to collect firewood.


Environmental Impact

Collection of firewood is one of the biggest driving forces behind deforestation worldwide, and sunlight-absorbing black carbon emitted from these fires is responsible for an estimated 18% of the earth’s rising temperature.


These are big problems, but there are solutions.  Improved cookstoves consume up to 60% less fuel than open fires and burn cleaner, producing less smoke and other harmful toxins.


We’ve distributed more than 48,500 improved cookstoves to families in Sudan, Uganda and India.
